September 7, 1944 - January 10, 2022
In loving memory ~
With the heaviest of hearts the family announce the passing of Marilyn Matilda King. She was born in Cumberland on the 7th day of September 1944, the 3rd of 6 children born to Jim and Ruby Clarkson. She peacefully passed away on the 10th day of January 2022 at her daughter's home in Winnipeg. She fought a hard, nasty battle with cancer along with an ongoing battle with Alzheimers.
She had her early childhood in Bevan and in 1955, her family moved to Campbell River where she met (at the Dairy Queen) and married her high school sweetheart Barry King. Together they produced three wonderful children.
Marilyn had an amazing life, she toured the world, accompanying Barry to his work sites. They lived in Iran, Nigeria, Borneo, Egypt, Philippines, Winnipeg and Edmonton, one adventure after another. Each year, they would go on a holiday to another country, kids in tow. What an education. But she always called Campbell River home.
She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Sister, she always had time for each of her 5 grandchildren. She always had a smile on her face, twinkle in her eye and she could be a pepper pot. How we loved her.
She is predeceased by her husband Barry, Son-in-law Cliff McClure, Sister Sharon Cathey, Brother Alan Clarkson and her constant canine companion, Harvey. She is survived by children Suzanne McClure, Cheryl (Dave) Bedarf and Jamie King, 5 grandchildren, Justine, Jared (Tessa), Hudson, Thomas and Emma, Brothers Bob (Charlotte) and Ron(Donna) and Sister Heather (Brian) Johnson, Sisters-in-law Kathy Clarkson and Juanita Thompson, Cousin Coreen Clarkson and numerous nieces and nephews.
In the Spring Marilyn will take her last trip with her children, coming Home to rest.
