This is written in loving memory of Maria Fatima Brum de Oliveira who went to be with the lord on August 23, 2022, at Brandt's Creek Mews in Kelowna, BC.
Maria was born June 8, 1940, at Ribeira Seca, Pico Azores, Portugal.
She is survived by her daughter Darlene Harris (b.1962) of Arizona; son David Brum de Oliveira (b.1972) and daughter-in-law Alida de Oliveira, of Penticton, BC; as well as her grandchildren Rebecca Harris (b.1991) of Kelowna and Spencer Harris (b.1993) of Arizona. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Maria Fatima de Brum and Lucia Silveira of Pico, Azores; as well as by nephews Helder Silveira, Carlos and Rui Brum, and niece Dina Silveira also of Pico Azores. She is also survived by her godson, Edward Silveira of Kitimat, BC.
Maria was predeceased by her parents Joao de Brum (d.1985) and Maria Silva de Brum (d. 1990); brother Herminio de Brum (d. 2012) of Pico, Azores; as well as brothers-in-law Manuel and Jose, and sister-in-law Maria; and her loving husband, Manuel P. de Oliveira (d.2014) of Kelowna, BC.
She suffered from a major stroke in 2002, and managed to keep going until her passing, almost 20 years to the day.
Maria came to Canada on August 29, 1961, after marrying Manuel the previous year on December 12, 1960. She lived in Kitimat, BC from 1961 to 1990, Kaleden, BC from 1990 to 2010, and Kelowna from 2010 to 2022. She enjoyed playing cards with her closest friends as well as baking, cooking, crocheting and gardening.
She will be missed by many friends and family.
A Graveyard Service was held at Lakeside Cemetery in Penticton, BC on August 31, 2022, at 11:00 am, where she was reunited with her husband Manuel. Father Obi of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Penticton presided over the funeral.
Thanks to the staff, nurses, and doctors of Brandt's Creek Mews for taking care of Maria over the past 10 years.
