In loving memory ~
We regret to announce the sudden passing of Keith at the age of 71. He died doing what he loved - visiting and helping with a family construction project. He was surrounded by wilderness in the beautiful Kootenays in his RV.
Keith was born in Vancouver to Iris and Roy MacNeil in 1951. He moved to Vernon, B.C., with his family at a young age, and there he stayed! Keith had a lifelong career in civil service with the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (Highways Department), during which he travelled to every corner of our province. He appreciated every place, but especially the more remote and natural locations that he considered our hidden treasures. In more recent years, Keith helped out with seasonal snow plowing in the Okanagan Valley and was part of the Silver Star Volunteer Ski Patrol Team.
Keith had great skills and interests in construction, machining, mechanics, and the like. He was always tinkering on varied and numerous projects, with an endless list of more waiting for time. He had an incredible ability to self-learn and pick up whatever he needed to do a project. Keith was curious, determined, and valued high-quality work with integrity.
Keith will be missed by his adult children, Ron (Maki) MacNeil, Tom (Sophie) MacNeil, and Penny MacNeil; his remaining Mottu and MacNeil extended family members; and many others who knew him. He is predeceased by his parents, Ronald ("Roy") and Iris (née Mottu) MacNeil, and his older sister Morag MacNeil.
In lieu of flowers or donations, take a moment to hug your loved ones, or take a walk in the woods. Time waits for no one.
