In loving memory ~

Marie Louise Bernadette Brassard was born in Paradise Hills, Sask. She died peacefully in Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC.

Louise was predeceased by her much-loved husband John in 2001, and her dear son Tony in 2021. She is survived by her son Patrick (Jeanne), grandchildren Kelly and Shannon Corbett, and by cousins Rita, Lou, Cindy, and Beverly - all Brassards.

Louise's youth on the prairies imbued her with a love of the outdoors and a hardy do-it- yourself spirit that made her equally comfortable and expert in the garden, the tool- shed, the fishing boat, the kitchen, the sewing room, and as hostess in the living room and dining room.

John's naval career took them first to Nova Scotia where Louise worked in Scotiabank branches; then to Esquimalt where Louise oversaw the construction of their house on Rockheights while John sailed the seas for months at a time. As a mom of two boys a year apart, she introduced them to multiple sports including both lake and ocean fishing.

When John retired in the 1990's, they moved to Sooke, and Louise became quite active in St. Rose of Lima Church. Her banners adorn the sanctuary, her crafts and garments lined the bazaar tables, and her baking enhanced the refreshment centre. Damp wet winters drove them south from October through March to Mazatlán with cousin Lou where Louise taught sewing at a Salvation Army orphanage on the twenty sewing machines she donated; or to Arizona where Louise ran the craft room while John led hikes to various canyons and forests.

After John's death a good friend coaxed Louise to stare down her fear of flying, and they flew to various cities to board ocean or river cruises and experience the delights of other cultures. When back home in Sooke Louise could be seen walking four miles every morning rain or shine. That kept her hale and hearty until she suffered a stroke in her 92nd year. Her son Patrick and Jeanne moved from Alberta and were faithfully at her side during her recovery which was ended by pneumonia.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic L Church, 2191 Townsend Rd, Sooke; reception to follow.

Patrick speaks for Louise in thanking the care teams at Victoria General (Neurology), Glengarry, and Jubilee (Palliative Care) for 1 excellent and sensitive care despite heavy workloads.

Donations in Louise's honour can be made to Victoria Hospitals Foundation, Glengarry Hospital, or St. Rose of Lima Parish.
