In Loving Memory ~
We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother, Lorna Elnor Hudema (Wilson), who passed away peacefully at Westhaven Multi Level Care Facility in Port Albemi on July 31 2023.
Lorna was born in Port Alberni in her grandmother's house, on August 26 1929. From her early teens until her marriage to Alfred Alexander Hudema in 1948, Lorna was a piper in the Glengarry Girls Pipe Band.
Lorna was also a dedicated advocate for people with disabilities after their 2nd child was born with cerebral palsy.
She was instrumental in the development of the precursor to the Port Albemi Association for Community Living. Lorna was, for a number of years, an active member in the Soroptimist club. Lorna and Al were adamant league 5 pin bowlers for many years. They were also floor curlers who competed in the BC Senior games.
Lorna worked, first as a telephone operator in Port Alberni. After a hiatus to raise their family she re-entered the work force as a clerical employee for Price Diamond Realty, later to become Vic Price Realty. She later worked for the Credit Union Insurance Office and, after that, for Alport Insurance.
In 1964 Lorna and Al moved into the home they lovingly dedicated themselves to building over the previous years. They lived in that wonderful home, raising their three children there, surrounded by acres of wilderness, until it was necessary for them to leave in 2010.
Lorna was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Alfred, her sister Beverly MacDonald, her brother James Wilson, her nephew Danny Wilson, her mother Beulah Wilson and her father Colin Wilson.
Lorna is survived by their three children: son, Larry Hudema (Denise Poupard), daughters Deborra Hudema and Susan Hudema; grandchildren Jade Hudema and Crystal Hudema; great-grandchild Devin Hudema; three nephews and 6 nieces.
We will deeply miss her wisdom,
wit and compassion.
Rest in peace Mom.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Westhaven for the excellent and compassionate care they provided our mother and family and friends during the challenging final week of our mother's life.
A Celebration of Life is pending and will be announced at a later date.
