November 13, 1948 - November 15, 2024

In loving memory ~

After being in a diabetic coma for 3 weeks, our beloved Lila - sister, auntie, cousin and friend, passed on peacefully on Nov. 15, 2024.

Lila was a loving sister to Cedric, Bob and Pat; a devoted aunt to Nathan, John and David Harland, and to Peter (Robbie) and Miriam Wing; a strong connector for the 39 cousins and other members within the Wing/Lee clans; and a reliable, beloved friend to many in her church, Legion and NDP communities.

Second born to Park and Lily Wing (first Ceddie, then Lila, Bobby and Patty), Lila played her part in the family restaurant, the Pagoda, until the kids perceived in 1968 that it was time for the Wing family to turn the page on those memorable, restaurant years.

Lila was a strong, union proponent and NDP loyalist, faithfully serving on many federal and provincial teams, year after year. She also had some strong convictions - her refusal to change her pro-union shirt eventually led to a province wide strike in 1981. While task oriented and hard-working, Lila was also kind hearted, gifted in administration, and had a distinct, organizational flair. This was initially manifested in high school where she was the president of Kappa Tau Lambda, then later in the executive positions she held in numerous political campaigns.

After attending some training right out of high school, Lila worked at BC Tel/Telus for 35 years, then chose to take an early retirement. Her political activity decreased somewhat about that time as well. Lila was an active Legion volunteer for 48 years, most recently with the Whalley Branch 229, and she simply loved working with the team there. Similarly, her gifts were very evident at St. Aidan's Presbyterian Church, now Trinity Presbyterian, and the Kara Group.

She enjoyed travelling, especially on her "auntie road trips," the occasional international jaunt, and visiting the Clellands in San Jose. However, we often worried about her sleeping in her car at rest stops along the way.

In recent years, health challenges began to be an issue for Lila, but did that slow her down? She was an honorary, lifetime member of BOTH the Royal Canadian Legion and the New Democratic Party, and in 2012, she received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Award. So, we are all a little stunned that she is, in fact, now gone, as she has been "Miss Dependable" for such a long time.

Lila, we look forward to seeing you on the other side.

Lila was predeceased by her father, Park in 1998, mother, Lily in 2004, and her sister, Pat in 2017.

A celebration of Lila's life will be held from 2:00 - 5:00 PM on Sat., Nov. 30, 2024 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cultural Centre, 13512 - 108 Ave. in Surrey, 1 block east of the Gateway SkyTrain Station.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Whalley Legion, Branch 229, the NDP party or St. Aidans/Trinity Presbyterian Church.
