In loving memory ~
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lila Joan Gerhardt, nee Bungay, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.
Lila was born October 24, 1939, and grew up in North Sydney, N.S., the youngest of 6 children. She worked at Maritime Telegraph & Telephone Company until she married Hal in 1964 and moved to Ontario where he was stationed. She worked for 21 years at Sears Canada, first in Ottawa, ON, and then in Nanaimo, B.C., where she and Hal and their children moved when he retired in 1986. Lila was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and volunteered for many years in the First Baptist Church in Nanaimo. She was a member of the Hearts in Motion walking club for several years, loved spending time with her friends and family, attending Bible study and her craft group, and reading.
Lila leaves behind her husband of 58 years Harold "Hal" Gerhardt, Nanaimo, B.C.; her son Harold Gerhardt, Nanaimo, B.C.; her daughter Lori (Glen) Henderson, Ottawa, ON; her granddaughter Annabel Henderson, Ottawa, ON; her brother Alfred "Sonny" (Alice) Bungay, Sydney Mines, N.S.; her sister-in-law Dorothy Bungay, North Sydney, N.S., and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Ella (nee Daye) and Alfred Bungay; brothers Clayton, Lorne, and Bill Bungay; and sister Aurelia Tufts.
Respecting Lila's wishes, there will be no service, only a private interment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Nanaimo. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Nanaimo Regional General Hospital would be appreciated.
