Ky Lam

A Celebration of Life

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ky Lam, aged 83. Dad passed away peacefully on May 8, 2010 in the Burns Lake and District Hospital, lovingly surrounded by family and friends.

Ky was born on March 18, 1927. He moved from Civil War China to Cambodia at an early age where he and his wife of 60 years, Phoung, were successful with an industrial bakery, and blessed with so many children. Later he and Phoung miraculously survived the genocide and killing fields of Cambodia, escaping to Vietnam and later Indonesia, along with their children and Ky’s mother. They were sponsored by the Burns Lake Baptist Church in 1980. They arrived in Canada on a cold 40 below January evening and woke up to Their new lives in Burns Lake. Ky enjoyed working beside his wife and children in building up the new family business, China Moon Restaurant, which the family continues to operate. Ky and Phoung looked forward to travelling the world more as they neared retirement. Dad enjoyed a happy, hard-working life, and despite his own illnesses, he continued to find joy in looking after mom through her illness, in cooking and taking care of their home and growing family each day.

Ky is survived by his children: Voy (Mai), Van (Ty), Muoi (Tuong), Sam (Phung), Chau (Kong), Teane (Garry). Ky is survived by his nephew, Tai (Nguyet) and niece Crystal (Joel) Christina (George). Ky is also survived by his many grandchildren: Jennifer (Ryan), Andrew, Paul, David, Tom (Johanna), Lucy, Allan, Brian, Steven, Jeffery, Johnathan, Donny, Amy, Melinda, Katelynn, Janelle, Rhianna and Beth. Ky was also so happy to see his great-grandson, Avery, in his last days. Ky is survived by brothers in Toronto and China, and other family members in Ireland.

We thank the Pall Bearers for Ky’s last journey: Andrew Lam, Paul Lam, David Lam, Tom Vien, Allan Ly, Brian Lam, Steven Lam, Jeffery Lam, Jonathan Ly.

Family, guests and friends were invited to speak from the heart for Ky and with the family at that time of sadness. We thank each of you for joining us and for helping us all celebrate Ky’s life and endure his passing.

Interment was in the Burns Lake Cemetery, Burns Lake, B.C.
