Katannya van Tyler

April 29, 1941 – November 22, 2022
In loving memory ~
Katannya van Tyler was born in Königsberg Germany and passed away peacefully in Comox. Katannya was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Dorothea, who were both dentists, and her sister Ursula.
She met her husband, Wayne Henley, a soldier from Nova Scotia, when he was stationed in Westfalia, Germany. They eventually moved to the Comox Valley in 1976 and after raising their 3 children, Katannya worked as a career counsellor at Opportunities Career Service. She had a passion for empowering others to rise to their full potential and was especially gifted at helping people connect to their personal values and self worth.
To many, she was a valuable source of insight and wisdom. Katannya was also passionate about gardening, meditation and spirituality. She enjoyed many Vipassana meditation retreats, teachings of the Course In Miracles, as well as hosting meditation circles in her home. She was able to find peace with whatever life presented, which was especially valuable as she developed dementia.
She maintained her sense of peace and became more appreciative of connections with others, walks in nature, her garden, time with family, and her beloved cat Shady. Her daughters Denise Henley (Shannon), Michele Henley (Daniel) and son, Carlo Henley (Leanne) and 9 grandchildren Kira, Aidan, Caleb, Jacob, Joseph, Madison, Simon, Zöe, and Aubrey all lived close by and were able to visit regularly. She also appreciated a recent visit from her German cousins, Carina, Alexander and Paul. Thanks to Dr. Sandwith and the nurses, social worker and support staff at The Views, where she spent her final year; we wish we could name you all. Mom felt safe and loved with the incredibly caring and kind supports you each provided, which will continue to give us comfort as we lovingly remember our mother.
Thank you as well to her wonderful neighbours that kept an eye out for her before she moved to The Views and always took time for a chat; and Sarah who adopted Shady. Please join us in remembering Katannya by visiting her online memorial at www.piercysmtwashingtonfuneral.com.
