Two days after his 80th birthday, Karl Heinz Berlinghof passed away, after a long illness, on July 24th, 2012 in Vernon, BC. Karl was born July 22nd, 1932 in Plankstadt, Germany. In 1951, at the age of 19 he immigrated to Montreal from Sandhausen and worked as a lumberjack. He and his buddies worked their way across Canada arriving in Calgary, where he met and married Theresa Moser and had four children. Karl joined the army where he became a Chief Warrant Officer receiving his chef papers. For many years he worked in Vernon teaching the cadets how to cook. Karl loved to fish and golf as well as being an active member of the Legion, Eagles and Elks Clubs. Karl will be dearly missed and forever loved by his family Will (Callista) Berlinghof, Edie (Bill) Hemstock, Gary (Shelly) Berlinghof and Denise (Steven) Bellingham; grandchildren Russell, Sandy and Katie Hemstock; Amanda and Michael Bellingham and Michael, Jackie, Jean-Marie, Deseria and Kyle Berlinghof as well as his ex-wife Theresa Berlinghof. He is also survived by his partner Jennett Vandesype. Further cherishing his memory are cousins Helen and Else Doerr and many friends including Olie and Maureen Sather. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 29th , 2012 at the Elks Hall (3103 30th Street, Vernon, BC) Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.MyAlternatives.ca.
