Born in Colinton Alberta, at age 14 moved to Pitt Meadows, graduated and completed grade 13 at McLean High School in Maple Ridge in 1940.
Married Henry Savege, a childhood acquaintance in 1941, bore children, first in 1943, second in 1944. She returned to school to earn a teaching certificate in 1946. She bore two more children one in 1957 and the second in 1959.
She retired from teaching primary grades in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge. In 1969 she then took up real estate sales in Maple Ridge in 1970, retiring from real estate sales in 1994.
Juanita always had a sense of community, beginning in the Women’s Auxiliary of Pitt Meadows in 1944, continuing in general with organizations that supported young people’s activities. i.e. Women’s institute, Pitt Meadows Athletic Association, PTA, Pony Club.
She was a real Trail Blazer in business and community service. She was one of the first women to go back to work and attended Normal School in Vancouver to become a teacher and then she became the third female real estate agent in Maple Ridge.
Juanita touched a great many souls during her life and had a positive effect on all she met. Her helpful spirit brightened the lives of both her own family and the many people whom she touched as a teacher, realtor and friend. Juanita will be loved and adored, and her spirit will always be with us.
May Juanita’s soul rest in peace.
We will be celebrating Juanita’s life on Sunday afternoon, July 23rd, 2023 at Ralph and Bonnie’s home in Maple Ridge.
