Joyce Elizabeth Shorten, gentle and loving, passed away at her care home in Surrey on December 31, 2022.
She was 92. Born in Calgary, she met the love of her life, James Allan Shorten, in junior high. Their marriage lasted 67 years until his passing in 2020.
Together they raised three daughters, Lynda, Patti and Janice, and were proud grandparents to Dan, Kelsey, Michael, Nadine, Graeme and Nicholas and great grandparents to Kyla and Devin.
Nothing was more important to Joyce than her family and she was never happier than in their company.
Joyce taught her daughters many things. One was to get outside and go for a walk.
Another was all it takes to make a meal is a loaf of bread. Her third, and most important lesson was that it didn't matter what you did in life, or what you had, what mattered was how you made people feel. And she always made people feel both beautiful and loved. She will be so missed.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Morgan Place Care Home who patiently supported Joyce through her last years with Alzheimer's.
