John Martineau Burrows

March 6, 2021
We are saddened to announce the unexpected passing of John on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the age of 87 years. He was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, went to work at United Cycle in Edmonton as a young man, he travelled throughout western Canada as a salesman before settling his young family in Calgary, where he launched and operated Sun Cycle and Sporting Goods.
Upon retirement he enjoyed travelling extensively. Though he relocated to the west coast – first Tsawwassen, then Nanaimo – he never gave up on his beloved Edmonton Eskimos! Even in retirement, he threw up his garage door in Tsawwassen as Sun Cycle, keeping neighbourhood children and adults safely cycling in style!
John loved to make people laugh – or groan – with a terrible dad-joke or pun. He enjoyed his travels, regaling people of his adventures to New Zealand where he had extended family.
He held a special place in his heart for his many friends and valued each moment spent with them. He loved morning crossword puzzles with a cup of coffee, old movies with a cold Hoegaarden, and finding a different route to all his favorite grocery stores (but never, ever, took the highway). He was a simple man who enjoyed simple pleasures.
John was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Jean and his siblings, Florence and Joyce. He is survived by his 4 children Debbi, Dawn, Dave, and Diane; 10 grandchildren, Cameron, Braedon, Keltie, Crystal, Ashley, Travis, Rebecca, Hanna, Connor, and Mary; and 3 great grandchildren, Sofia, Frances, and George.
He was especially “bust-out-the-seams” proud of his grandchildren, each with their unique talents and accomplishments and he was so excited welcoming his great-grandbabies.
There will not be a formal memorial at this time. Instead, take a moment, think of John and smile at your favorite “John-ism”!Obituary-
