1951 - 2024
Our beloved John passed away at his home in Port Alberni on July 19, 2024, at the age of 72.
John grew up in the West End of Vancouver and lived for many years in Metro Vancouver before settling in Port Alberni upon retirement.
Though we grieve our loss, John leaves us with a rich and enduring legacy of cherished memories. John was a bright and lively light in our lives. A born raconteur who made us laugh, a seeker of adventure and travel near and far, a creator of many imaginative solutions, and a generous, kind-hearted and loving soul who took each day as it came.
Having lived near water for his entire life, John's passion for fishing started as a boy and later extended to scuba diving. He completed BCIT's meat cutter program at the top of his class and worked as a meat cutter in grocery stores for decades. John was also a creative and enthusiastic cook who knew how to best use a vast array of spices and herbs.
John is survived by his son Christopher (Katrin), daughter Vanessa, brother Dennis, sister Frances (Scott), twin sister Joyce (Patrick), nephews Michael (Rosalind) and Simon, grandchildren Micha, Charlotte and Leo, as well as other relatives and his friends.
In keeping with John's wish for simplicity, a family graveside service will be held in Vancouver in the near future.
