In loving memory ~
It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we announce that John passed away peacefully at the Oceanside Hospice, after a long battle with cancer, born in Glarus, Switzerland to Fritz and Anna Marie. The family immigrated to Canada in 1959, worked on a dairy farm in Richmond then moved to the island and ran Woodlands dairy farm on Church rd. The family sold the farm in 1973. A dedicated logger, John was a respected employee of MacMillan Blodel, Weyerhaeusen, Island Timberlands, Mosiac and Northwest Bay. Beginning his career as a young man setting chokers, John was a faller for 35 years, then ran an excavator. John retired in 2019.
He loved fishing, farming, camping, hunting, woodwork, and spending time with his grandchildren whom he adored so much. John was a loving caring husband, father, and grandfather. He was a hard worker always willing to give a helping hand.
John is survived and missed by his loving wife Margaret of 43 years and his grandchildren, son Ryan, daughters Sarah (Troy), Natasha (Josh). John will be forever cherished by his five grandchildren, Deacon, Owen, Jace, Weston, Benjamin, his brother Fred (Linda), sister Marianne (Guy) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will forever be in their hearts and missed. At his request in his final wishes there will be no memorial service.
The family wishes to send a special thank-you to the staff as Oceanside Hospice for their care and compassion.
