In loving memory ~
With deep sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved John on February 3, 2025, following a heart attack. He was surrounded by loved ones and is now in the arms of his Jesus.
John was predeceased by his first wife, Faith (2010); parents, Dennis (1975) and Ethel (1983); and sister, Audrey (1996). He is survived by his wife, Anne; step-sons, Jimmy (Pamela) and Matthew (Nikki); cousin, Joan (Keith); nephew, Patrick (Norma); niece, Mary (William, deceased); and grand-nieces, Kathleen, Theresa (Ting), and Stephanie (Andrew). He will be fondly remembered by many family members in Canada and the UK, as well as dear friends Sarah Welsby and Patrick Quick.
John emigrated from the UK in 1957, earning his Bachelor's at UBC and Master's Degree at Ottawa U. He worked in forestry and government, including roles with World Vision, National Parole Board, Statistics Canada, and the Solicitor General. A devoted Christian, he was active in ministry, volunteering with First Baptist Church, Nanaimo's outreach to seniors in local care homes, with the Canadian Bible Society and leading Bible studies. After retiring, he found joy in sharing his faith and love of cats with Anne in Nanaimo.
A memorial service will be held on Sat, March 15, at 2:00 PM (Pacific time zone) at Hammond Bay Baptist Church, Nanaimo, with a reception to follow. The service will be live-streamed via the church website: hammondbaychurch.org
Heartfelt thanks to the First Responders, Paramedics, Dr. Kim, and the NRGH ER staff for their care.
