June 6, 1957 – July 2, 2023
In loving memory ~
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our dear brother, John Foster Vaughan, at 66 years of age. He passed away peacefully on July 2, 2023, at his home in Kiwanis Lodge, Nanaimo, B.C., with his three sisters by his side. His passing was eased by the excellent, compassionate care provided by the night nurse in his home. John is survived by his sisters Susan (John) Little, Lois (Jack) Foster and Amy (Ed) Leung, by his Aunt Carol Ross, as well as by many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who meant a great deal to him.
John was born in Nanaimo on June 6, 1957. His path through life encompassed many diverse occupations including various forestry jobs, cook, meat cutter, soil specialist in the oil industry, and powerline qualified arborist. Most recently he enjoyed a career as a home support worker. He loved helping people to continue living in their own homes as long as possible.
John had a delightful sense of humour and a playful spirit – he enjoyed a little well-intentioned mischief. He was easygoing and laid-back, very sociable and fun-loving – for him there was nothing better than sharing good times with friends. In addition to a core of life-long friendships, he developed new friends wherever life led him.
John’s family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all the staff, and home support workers, at Kiwanis Village, where John first lived in the Kiwanis Soroptimist Suites, followed by Kiwanis Lodge. We cannot say enough good things about the caring home John enjoyed at Kiwanis Village during the last years of his life. John enjoyed meaningful friendships with other residents as well, and spoke highly of them. We also wish to thank Dr. John Coyle for his years of care and attention to John’s health needs, and for all of the kind support he provided to John and his family.
John will be very much missed by all who loved and cared for him.
May he rest in peace.Obituary-
