December 28, 1938 - April 30, 2022
Joan (Joni) Rilla Hawker was born December 28, 1938 in Lovat, Nova Scotia and passed away peacefully on April 30, 2022 in Port Alberni BC.
Joni will be sadly missed by her family; son, Colin; daughter, Barbara (Rory); son, Rick (Marilyn); daughter, Vicki (Travis); stepson, Bruce (Fran), stepson Dalan (Myra) and stepdaughter Cara (Gord). Being a Nana and GranNana was the highlight of her life. She had 22 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters; Jean (Earl), Janet (Terry), Joyce (Blake) and Rose (Keith). Joni was predeceased by her husband, Bernie Hawker; parents, Walter and Thelma Smeltzer; and her brother Raymond Smeltzer.
We would like to thank the nursing staff at West Coast General Hospital for their caring support of our Mom.
We also want to give a special thank you to Dr Marc Puts whose compassion and understanding were invaluable to us as we walked with our Mom thru the final stage of her life journey.
A Celebration of Joni's Life was held at Jericho Road Church in Port Alberni.
