December 3, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joan Catherine Coulson on December 3rd, 2022.
Joan was born in October of 1944 to parents Frank Robinson and Catherine Murray in Calgary, Alberta.
Joan moved to Lantzville, B.C. when she was in elementary school. Joan remained a long-time resident of Lantzville until her recent passing.
On March 27th, 1965 Joan married the love of her life and her very best friend, David Thomas Coulson. Tom and Joan built an amazing life together and were always busy with projects and adventures. Joan's most significant accomplishment was becoming a mother and, with Tom always right beside her, raising their son John Coulson (wife Nancy and children Finn and Reesa) and Cathy Coulson (children Savannah, Thomas and Avery).
Joan was a devoted, hardworking, patient and generous Mom who embraced motherhood to the fullest. Joan was John and Cathy's biggest cheerleader whether it be at the soccer field, baseball diamond, band concerts or countless hours helping with homework, fundraising, coaching and chaperoning for many festivals with John and Cathy's band programs.
Joan worked for many years at Simpsons Sears in the original downtown Nanaimo location, Woodward's Department Store and eventually the Bay. Joan left the Bay to spend her retirement years with her grandchildren, children and of course Tom.
Joan enjoyed camping and fishing, playing slow pitch, knitting, baking and whatever home improvement projects she could find time for. Tom and Joan enjoyed traveling and exploring different parts of the world together.
Joan is predeceased by her brother Gary Robinson, father Frank Robinson and mother Catherine (Kay) Fuller. She is survived, and will be remembered fondly, by many friends and extended family.
Tom, John and Cathy would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Steyn at the Sows Ear Medical Clinic as well as the nurses and care assistants at Stanford Seniors Village where Joan spent only a few short weeks.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson's Society of B.C. in Joan's name. Details of a celebration of Joan's life will be shared in the spring with those whom Joan would have wanted to have gather with her.
Tom, John and Cathy would like to thank those who have sent condolences and kind words to assist during this difficult time.
