In Loving Memory ~
It is with much sadness that we share the news of Janet's passing in the Campbell River Hospital on May 1, peacefully & on her own terms.
Born in Victoria B.C. to Robert & Elizabeth Duke, where she joined her older brother & sister, David & Margaret.
Janet's early years in Victoria instilled in her a lasting love of nature, the sea & messing about in small boats exploring the Southern Gulf Islands particularly with her lifelong friend, Diana Symons. Following her graduation from the Royal Jubilee School of Nursing & her marriage in 1962 she moved to Campbell River.
There she made her forever home, always a warm & welcoming refuge for family, friends & strangers alike with her caring & compassion for others, always above self. Her ever present love of sea & nature found her travelling to many remote coastal inlets to discover & preserve ancient petroglyph carvings with her unique style of canvas rubbings, while savouring the peace & beauty of those special places. And, of course, there were many productive hours spent in Tyee Pool!
Janet was predeceased by her first husband, Mike Rippingale & her cherished partner, Dave Turner with whom she shared so many adventures in B.C. & aboard.
She is survived by her devoted sons Peter, Andrew (Carole) & Douglas (Audrey).
She leaves behind a very saddened group of grandchildren, great grandchildren, & a large extended family all of whom loved their special time in her presence. Her wide circle of lifetime friends will forever remember her with their own special memories.
The family would particularly thank her long time neighbour & friend, Diana
Kretz, the many friends & neighbours, the caring & compassionate team from Home Support & the dedicated doctors & nurses all of whom gave her so much help & comfort in her final days.
