In loving memory ~
Janet Maisie (Measham) Anderson, 78, passed away in her home, surrounded by loved ones, during the early hours of Sunday, December 11, 2022, after a short battle with cancer.
She is pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years, Harold "Andy" Anderson, and leaves her sons Jim (Tanja), Sean (April), and Gregg (Becky). She is also survived by her sister Valerie and her four grandchildren, Chloe, Ben, Sam, and Raili, as well as her extended family and many, many close friends.
Born in Newark, Nottinghamshire, England, she studied nursing after leaving secondary school. She met her future husband, Andy, while he was stationed in England with the RCAF. They were married six months later, on June 22, 1963. They spent the next 54 years together, rarely spending a night apart. She gave birth to her three sons while she and Andy were stationed in France, Luxembourg, and Canada. They moved to Grand Forks, B.C., Andy's hometown, in 1972, and they opened Andy's TV Centre which became a Grand Forks institution for over thirty years. After helping run the store for several years, Jan transitioned her energies and work ethic into her role as a work-at-home mother for her three boys, a role she tirelessly pursued for two decades. Later, she explored other opportunities for employment, most notably as a receptionist for the dental office of Dr. Reuben B. Tataryn, DDS, from which she retired in 2015.
At various points, Jan worked with the B.C. Alzheimer's Society as a family support contact, she was active in putting on many functions with the Anglican church social committee, and she was particularly proud of her organizational role in the Grand Forks 90th anniversary celebration. She is still regarded as a surrogate mum by countless Border Bruins who billeted with her and Andy over the years, several of whom became like sons to them.
Jan loved Andy with all her heart and missed him every single day after his passing. She loved large family dinners and never missed an opportunity to tell us how proud she was of everyone and how much she enjoyed our all being together. She was also an adopted granny for a number of special people in her life. Jan truly enjoyed her friends and loved nothing more than sitting for a visit over a cup of tea. Just milk, no sugar.
The world, robust for her presence in it, now seems just a little too quiet with her passing.
Service to be announced in the New Year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the B.C. Cancer Foundation.
