McMANUS, James K.
October 1934 – August 2016
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, James (Jim) Kenneth McManus, in Kelowna, age 81. He leaves behind his three children Tamra (Shaun), Robert (Kezia), and Tracy (Steven), as well as seven grandchildren: Sarah, Connor, Patrick, Cameron, Riley, Kristen, and Kyle. Also missing him are his extended family and many friends, particularly Dee. He was predeceased by our mom, Shirley, in 2011. Jim grew up on a farm near Kindersley Saskatchewan. After graduation, he studied aeronautical engineering at SAIT in Calgary. His career took him to Montreal to work for Canadair and this is where he met and married Shirley French. Eventually, they moved to Vancouver where dad worked for Canadian Airlines. A career highlight at Canadair came when he and a colleague designed the tail stabilizer on the Snowbirds Demonstration Squadron CT-114 Tutor. In 1993, Jim retired after 30 years with Canadian. He and mom then moved to Vernon where dad enjoyed building RC airplanes or tinkering in his workshop. Our dad was a gentleman, a family man. He was very proud of his Scottish heritage and prairie roots. He was strong, handsome, kind, and funny.
We will miss his smile, his soft voice, and his gentle heart. We love you so much, Dad.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, August 27th from 2- 4 pm at daughter Tamra’s home in North Vancouver. Please call or text 604-803-2619 for directions or details.
