October 9, 1930 - August 21, 2022
Our dad, James Arthur Flaten, passed away Aug 21, 2022 at the age of 91.
He is predeceased by his bride Irene Rose of 61 years, daughter Suzanne, adored grandson Kyle, mother Josephine, sister Dorothea and brother Albert.
He leaves behind sons Colin(Terri), David, Bill (Shawna) and daughter Elaine. Grand children Jaclyn (Marco), Devon, Aaron (Devon), Jana and great grandson Oliver.
Dad loved growing up in Prince Rupert with his life long friends starting from his childhood Seal Cove gang. Basketball was his passion in high school and beyond, allowing him to play in locations he said he would never had seen as a kid, if not for basketball. He was the skip for many successful curling teams and was known as "The Silver Fox". He was an avid golfer and even took up skiing with mom and close friends later in life.
Through selling lumber, insurance, cars to Real Estate, dad was known to many people.
In 1974, Dad was instrumental in creating "PR11", which was 11 building lots on Lakelse Lake he sold to friends and associates. He built a cabin on his lot the following year and retired there with mom in 1993.
He was famous for pouring a stiff drink at many social gatherings where stories were shared and endless laughter ensued. Dad must have said a hundred times, "we live in the best country in the world, the best province in the country, and the best town in the province". He would always end a story by saying, "Aaaaanyways" while scratching his head.
