Hermanna was the firstborn child of Jan and Jantje Oostenbrug. She was born on February 7, 1937, in Grypskerk, Groningen, Netherlands, and was named after her maternal grandmother. She had one sister, Doetje (Dorothy), and one brother, Sytze (Sidney).
The family immigrated to Canada on May 15, 1951, and arrived in Quebec City on May 28, 1951. After their arrival they travelled on, by train, to Alberta and began working on farms in the Coaldale area. Soon after that, the family moved to British Columbia and started dairy farming.
On April 26, 1957, Hermanna married Klaas Huttema. After living in Surrey for 10 years they moved to Banford Road in Chilliwack and started dairy farming. Their retirement years were spent travelling around North America.
Hermanna was predeceased by her husband Klaas in January 2022, her brother Sidney in 2010, and less than a month ago her sister Dorothy.
Mom is survived by four children: Linda (John Woelders), Ken (Yvonne), Julia (Berney Fennema), Allan (MaryJo), 14 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.
Mom was taken home to the Lord on the evening of July 18, 2023.
