In Loving Memory (1927-2022) ~
Heinz passed away peacefully at age 95 on November 15, 2022 at The Gardens retirement home in Qualicum Beach.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend Gisela of 63 years in 2013, oldest son Norbert in 2020, and parents and siblings in Germany.
Heinz will be lovingly remembered, cherished, and dearly missed by daughter Eleonore (Steven) of Kitchener, Ontario, son Siegfried (Kathy) of Vancouver, grandchildren Jason, Darren, Terry, Nick, and Katie, and by his great grandchildren, relatives in Germany, and many devoted friends.
Heinz, Gisela, and family emigrated from Germany in 1957 settling in Midland, Ontario where he worked at Leitz Canada as a Senior Production Engineer. Additionally, they opened a wool shop in downtown Midland which Gisela operated for over 8 years, until their retirement to Qualicum Beach in 1990.
Heinz will be remembered for his love of playing the piano and organ, learning to play at the age of 12 while struggling with polio since age 10.
He played for church services in nearby towns in Germany throughout his teenage years, and was the pianist at the Qualicum Community Baptist Church where he and Gisela were devoted members for many years, as well as playing on Sunday afternoons at various retirement homes in Parksville and Qualicum Beach.
Heinz was also instrumental in setting up the weekly Singkreis, for people to come and sing German folk songs at the Bradley Centre.
The motto "make the best of every day" was something Heinz lived by, and he wanted people to know that he made the best of his life wherever he was, and was pleased with what he had accomplished in life.
Cremation has already taken place, and no service is planned.
