In loving memory ~
Harold Campbell passed away peacefully on Christmas morning, after a short illness. He was born in Bella Bella, B.C., to Harold and Mary (Patterson) Campbell, who became light keepers on Ivory Island in 1944.
He grew up there and on Lawyer Island light station, before moving to Welcome Harbour, and then to Prince Rupert. Growing up on "the lights", he had a unique childhood and developed very useful skills, with many interesting stories of family life, boats, shipwrecks, wild and domestic pets, goats, and fishing. He started fishing as a young teen, and continued gill netting on the Forty Niner II and then the Harlynn until retirement.
He married Lynn Theede from Quesnel in 1973, a loving and valued partner in every part of life. They had 2 sons, Lloyd and Leslie, raised mostly at Welcome Harbour. Harold's retirement years were spent mostly on Vancouver Island, with friends in Quatsino, and later in Abbotsford.
The last 3 years he enjoyed the caring atmosphere of the staff and residents at Menno Home. He is immensely missed by all who knew him, for his kind, gentle and helpful demeanour, and for all the useful information he could impart.
Harold is predeceased by his parents, Harold and Mary Campbell, his brother, Ken, and his wife, Lynn. He is survived by his sons, Lloyd and Leslie, his brother, Bert (Verda), and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at Prince Rupert Fellowship Baptist Church, February 18th, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. There will also be a memorial gathering in Abbotsford in April.
