Gord Davidson peacefully died on February 8, 2024, at his residence in Qualicum Beach, B.C.
Gord was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years Diane (Jeffrey), in 2020; also, his parents, Agnes (2002) and Joseph (1964) Davidson, sister-in-law, Joan Davidson (2020), brother-in-law, Bob Jagger (2008) and nephew David Jagger (1969) and brother-in-law, Glenn Jeffrey (1999).
Gord is survived by his two sons, Bradley (Linda Hauck), Waterloo, ON, and Robin (Giesela), who are at sea. Also, his brother Arthur, Stouffville, ON and his sister Marion Jagger, Qualicum Beach, B.C.; his sister-in-law Joy (Dick) Betts, Winnipeg, MB and sister-in-law Margaret (Leon) Mercury, Brentwood Bay, BC and sister-in-law Donalda Jeffrey, Vancouver, B.C. and several nieces and nephews in Canada and the USA.
Born in Montreal, QC, Gord moved to Winnipeg as a teenager. He started his career as an RCMP officer but then decided to pursue a business career instead. He joined Drummond McCall Steel as a salesman while attending the University of Manitoba at night to complete the CIM designation. Then, the Province of Manitoba beckoned, firstly as a Consultant with the Department of Industry and Commerce, then as Chief of Operations, Parks Branch, Department of Natural Resources. Also, he assisted his wife, Diane, in launching and operating Country Charm, her successful furniture and gift accessory business in Winnipeg.
Taking early retirement, Gord, with his wife Diane, accepted Tourism Consulting assignments in Estonia, Russia, and the Czech Republic under the auspices of CESO. As a 33-year charter member of the Rotary Club of Winnipeg Assiniboia, besides normal club activities, Gord participated in Rotary District 5550 and Rotary Foundation aide projects in Peru and Paraguay in the role of a liaison for Rotary Trust Banks and Operation Eyesight International programs in India.
True retirement happened upon relocation to Qualicum Beach in 2005, the paradise of Vancouver Island. But not one to be idle, Gord was Strata Council President for ten years and an active member of the QB Probus Club, and he spearheaded the fundraising walks for MS with "Team Dianeomite."
For eight years, Gord has been a resident of the Berwick Communities, firstly in Comox with Diane and latterly in Qualicum Beach, where he has enjoyed life to the fullest, especially with newfound friends and, of course, a dram of scotch!
His joy was following the exploits of his sons, Brad, a piper of renown, and Robin and Giesela, sailing the world for the past five years on their yacht Toboggan.
The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to Cheryl and Abner of Compassion Care for their support and care for the past several months.
Cremation has taken place. There was a spectacular celebration for Gord on his 90th birthday in July 2023, so there will be a scattering of ashes for family only. Flowers are gratefully declined.
