In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce Glenda Lightbody’s (nee Chan) passing on December 26th at the age of 82 in Victoria, B.C.
Glenda was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad to Robert and Gladys Chan, the fifth of six children. Growing up she said that she did not need friends because she had so many cousins and relatives.
She married William in 1963 and in 1965 his company transferred him back to Montreal. She adapted and thrived in her new country learning how to skate and ski both cross-country and downhill. She never lost her love for Trinidad and would visit frequently with the family, imparting a love of a large boisterous family, West Indian cuisine (especially roti), dim sum and calypso music to her family.
Glenda loved family and would often come to visit or take care of her grandchildren (Nico, Alex, Sofia and Drew) of whom she was very proud. A longtime member of St. Andrew’s Church, she was very social and always had a great circle of friends wherever she lived. In Sidney, she and her friends kept the local restaurants and coffee shops in good shape through their frequent patronage.
She is loved and will be missed by all her family and friends. She is predeceased by her husband William and survived by her two sons Ian and Peter, daughters-in-law Linda and Jen, and grandchildren Nicholas, Alexander, Sofia and Drew.
The family would like to thank the staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital and the Coronary Care Unit of the Royal Jubilee Hospital for the care they gave Glenda in her final hours.
In lieu of flowers please donate to mum’s two charities of choice: BC Cancer Foundation or the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation.
Celebration of Life to be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church on Saturday December 31st at 2:00 p.m.
