August 30, 1928 - November 19, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Gladys Grace Wall.
Gladys passed away peacefully at her residence at Menno Hospital in Abbotsford, B.C. on Nov 19, 2022 at the age of 94.
Gladys was born on August 30, 1928 in Cranbrook B.C. to parents Leonard and Grace Jecks. Gladys moved with her family to Rossland B.C. in November 1935.
She was educated in Rossland. Gladys was hired by B.C. Tel in 1949 as a telephone operator until they went to dial in 1956.
Gladys was then offered the Chief Operator and Representative job at Vanderhoof and moved there in August of 1956. This is where she met Cornelius (Corny) Wall who worked for the B.C. Forest Service. They were soon married in June of 1958. Shortly after, she quit B.C. Tel to raise her family of two children Robert and Sandra.
Gladys was always very active in the community. Wherever she could lend a hand she would. Gladys worked as a voluntary librarian for 17 years and was also a member of the Nechako Valley Music Festival Association for 7 years. She was active in the Anglican Church and was the People's Warden for 17 years. She helped out with Brownies and volunteered for home support where she drove older people to and from the clinic.
After living in Vanderhoof for 61 years, Gladys decided to move to Menno Place in Abbotsford to be closer to her daughter Sandra and family in 2017.
Gladys enjoyed knitting, reading, bowling and tea parties. She also loved playing card games with her many friends, her favourite being Skip-Bo. In her younger years she loved to travel. Gladys was kind and generous with a great sense of humour.
Gladys is predeceased by her parents Leonard & Grace Jecks, husband Corny Wall, and her brothers Don & Gordon Jecks.
Gladys will be missed by her son Robert Wall of Terrace, B.C., daughter Sandra (Ralph) Wiens of Abbotsford B.C. and granddaughter Michaela Wiens of Abbotsford B.C.
An announcement concerning the memorial in Vanderhoof will be placed in the paper sometime in the Spring of 2023.
