Gerard Eugene “Gerry” Charriere

Gerard Eugene "Gerry" Charriere

It is with emotions and  broken hearts that we, the family and friends have to announce the passing of Gerry. Gerry turned the last page of his life on the eve of the new year.

Gerry was born in Switzerland January 31, 1932.  After his schooling in his village,  he went to Grangeneuve where he learned the trade of Cheesemaker. In 1957 he immigrated to Canada, Montreal first, then he came west and never left. Golden was his home for over 30 years.

His choice of work took  him all over the high Arctic doing  seismic work on all the islands as well as on Ice for many years.  His love for exploration took him south to work in Venezuela for a few years, where he welcomed the change from -40C to +4oC.  In 1992  he moved  to Chase, and in 2000 to Enderby retiring for good.

Here he enjoyed gardening and meeting friends at Kidney Lake, camping and fishing. Those trips were the highlight of his summers until 2 years ago, despite a lot of health problems in the  last five years.

Gerry leaves behind his sister Agnes, her husband Roland Gillard, niece Anne, brother Pascal, all of Switzerland, brother Eric of Scotland and  his nephew Dominique Gillard, his wife Joanne, their daughters Sophie and Charlotte of Houston TX.

In Canada he leaves his long time companion Janyne Senechal and her family and his very special  daughter in law Joanna. She had the privilege to hold his hand when he crossed the threshold of the door open to Eternity.

The family wishes to thank the nursing staff and the  doctors of VJH for the  respect and for making Gerry comfortable and pain free the last few days of his life.

A celebration of life will take place in the summer 2018.  Rest in peace my love.
