April 27, 1928 - January 23, 2023
Geraldine Beverly Marshall (née Nesbit) passed away on January 23, 2023, at age 94 after a brief illness surrounded by Bob, her husband and constant companion of 71 years, and all her children.
Gerry was born April 27, 1928, to Mildred and Jack Nesbit in Vancouver. After graduating from Lord Byng High School, she went on to study Home Economics at UBC. With a Bachelor of Science degree, Gerry started work as a dietician at Vancouver General Hospital in 1950.
Gerry met Bob through their parents who shared a passion for boating - both families were members of the Burrard yacht club and spent summers on the waters of the southern BC coast.
Gerry married Bob on August 21, 1951, and moved with him, first to Montreal where Bob finished medical school, then for a year both in Vancouver and Lake Cowichan, finally settled in Mission where they raised their five children. Mission became a base for the many family get-togethers, even after most of the children moved away.
At the age of 24, with the arrival of her first-born, Gerry began her life-long career of raising her family, quietly guiding each of her children with love and a sense of responsibility - a role she never truly gave up.
Gerry was active in badminton, the "Great Books" club, her regular bridge group, and the weaver's guild. She enjoyed sewing and gardening - growing vegetables, fruit trees and especially the flowers that were always decorating the house. And of course, Gerry & Bob always had a dog at home.
With the arrival of grandchildren in 1979, Gerry spent some of her most enjoyable time with them - playing cards and boardgames, watching them in sports, musical recitals, and plays, as well as in their progression through their chosen careers. She always impressed on each of them that they were THE BEST.
Gerry will be remembered for her quiet grace and patience, her piercing parental insight, and her compassion and sense of duty.
Gerry was predeceased by her parents and her brother Donald.
Gerry is survived by her husband Robert, her five children Liese (Ken) Goosen, James (Julie) Marshall, Robbie (Peter) Laslo, Cam (Judi) Marshall, Megan (Peter) Perry and 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
