Gerald Edward Hansen

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gerald Edward Hansen on December 30th, 2022.
Gerald is survived by his two sons, Jim (Peggy) and Norman; granddaughter Heather (Kevin); great granddaughter Molly; brother Don and family; sister Doreen and family, as well as extended family and numerous friends. Gerald is predeceased by his loving wife June (69 years), his parents Holger Hansen and Gudrun Halling, and many other relatives.
Gerald was born September 3rd, 1931, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 2nd, 1949. There he worked as an airframe technician and radar technician until he retired in 1970, as a sergeant.
Gerald finished his working career at Nanoose Naval Base, testing and repairing sonar equipment, for 14 years. Due to Gerald’s air force career, his family moved quite a bit, living in several locations in Canada and in Germany. Gerald ended up living in Parksville since 1975.
Gerald (Gerry) to friends had a good retirement and traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Central America, the Caribbean, and the United States. He has been a Legion member for 46 years. Gerry was a very generous person and donated a lot to several charities.
Gerry enjoyed curling, bowling, live theatre, gardening, stamp collecting and entertaining with friends and relatives. He met his wife June at a dance in Vancouver and married her on the 6th of September 1952. Gerald lived a life full of love and adventures and will be dearly missed.
