George, son of Dragan (Dan) Zaklan (1893-1973) and Marta Bracika Zaklan (1904-2004), brother of John Relic (b 1928; children Kristi Clifton (husband Oliver) and Suzanne Relick); predeceased by brother Gordon Zaklan (1930-2012; children Dan Zaklan (wife Cindy), Don Zaklan (wife Cathy), Jane Zaklan) passed away at age 90 peacefully at Surrey Memorial hospital on January 26, 2023.
George is survived by his wife Evelyn Zaklan and children Stefanie Zaklan Duff (husband John, daughter Alice) and Michael Zaklan (wife Judi, son Alexei).
George was born in Surrey, at the corner of Roebuck Road (132nd street) and Walden Road (84th Ave) with the aid of Mara Kekic, a neighbour. He lived all but two of his 90 years on the same property.
George spent 35 years teaching in the Surrey School District and was a proud recipient of the Queen's Jubilee Medal for Community Service.
A teacher, a farmer, a consummate traveller, a community activist and advocate, an author, a pillar of the family and defender of the proletariat.
We will miss his vast knowledge, mealtime conversations, commitment to his family and community, and engaging charm.
Celebration of life event to be held at the Burnaby Hall on Canada Way at 1:00pm Saturday February 11.
