George Ballantine KERR

Kerr, George Ballantine:

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland on July 2, 1936, George went home to his heavenly Father on May 22, 2005 after a short struggle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents (Hannah and William)and brother (Bill) in the U.K., he leaves behind his loving wife, Mary, two sons Rob (Joy), Gord(Jennifer), five grandchildren (Samantha, Logan, Lincoln, Erin, Aidan), as well as many relatives and friends. He arrived in Canada in June of 1957 to play in the Powell River Pipe Band, served in the PPCLI airborne, was a deep-sea diver among many other jobs before moving to Surrey in 1964. He has been a volunteer fireman, drum and drill instructor for the Whalley Legion Junior Band, and a baseball coach for the Surrey Canadian Baseball Association. He taught the BJRT program at Douglas College, and mainly shop courses in the Surrey School District with most of his time being spent at Len Shepherd Jr. Sec. After his retirement, he had a small business as a wood carver and custom woodworker. He was an inspiration and an encouragement to all who knew him with his love for God, positive attitude, great sense of humor, and an ability to make everyone feel special. He often said that he was only a tool in the Lord’s hand to glorify Him. His favourite scripture verse was Isaiah 40:31 and his favourite charity; World Vision. His priorities were Jesus, wife, sons and their families, and relatives and friends. A celebration of his life was held at Cedar Grove Baptist Church on Friday, May 27, 2005, at 1:30 pm. Thank you to everyone who were so supportive and loving to him and his family in so many different ways during this challenging time.
