In Loving Memory ~
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Lionel Dunbar, after a stoic battle with cancer he passed away peacefully on June 19 with family at his side.
He let us all know that he lived a great life, and we were given the gift of time to reflect with him on his life’s adventure. Gary was born on March 27, 1941 and raised in Nanaimo calling home for the majority of his life between the Wellington/Pleasant Valley area.
Fun facts to share, he spent 7 years in the military as a volunteer with the Dukes Tank Core as well many years as a volunteer firefighter at Wellington, he was a saw filer by trade and spent 35 years at Harmac in the Saw Mills. He loved all sports, lacrosse, baseball, bowling, and curling in his younger years and of course in later years Keno was his sport of choice where he enjoyed loudly calling for his numbers.
Home was always a place for family and friends to gather and share stories, the coffee pot was always ready for the next visitor. Gary’s one request was to make it to his 50th wedding anniversary and there was never a doubt that he would reach that goal, Gary celebrated with his wife Barbara Dunbar on May 19 along with family and it was a joyous day. He is our hero and will be missed and remembered by his family and friends.
We want to express our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at the hospital, Doctor Morrison and Doctor Wells as well as the third-floor staff, Palliative care, and Ostomy clinic crew.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Obituary-
