February 21, 1969 - March 10, 2023
In loving memory ~
It is with the greatest and deepest sorrow we announce the death of Gary Nicholson. Gary passed away in his sleep at home in the early morning hours of Friday, March 10th at the age of 54 years.
Gary was born February 21, 1969 in Esterhazy, SK to Jim and Elsie Nicholson. Shortly thereafter, the whole family moved to Fernie which remained Gary's home ever since.
After Elsie passed away in 1993, Jim and Gary formed a special bond, caught the "travel bug" and spent many years travelling to Alaska and the southern states in their motorhome.
When Jim passed away in 2008, Dale and Terri moved in with Gary and spent the next 15 years with him. They always said how blessed they were!
Gary was involved with the Life Skills program in Fernie for many years. He enjoyed the company of many classmates and looked forward to the shenanigans of the day with Jordie, McKenzie, Catrina, Tim and his long-time classmates, Cora, Wayne, Darren, and his buddy Brader.
Gary became quite the social butterfly! He loved his coffee dates with his ladies, Stella and Tessa, his camping adventures with Nette, being brother Dale's wingman on Sunday morning golf with the guys, hanging out with Phil and the boys at Fernie Auto Parts, wrestling with his "best big brother" Remy, shopping with Terri, pushing the cart and trying to hug all the ladies ... but most of all, he absolutely loved spending time with his very best friend Bill Sailor.
Gary was the Fernie Ghostriders #1 fan! He attended almost every game. If you didn't see him at the game, you certainly heard him. He was the fellow in the corner blowing the air horn!
Gary is survived by his brothers Dale (Terri) and Jim, his sister Bev (Don), niece Lyndi (Jason), nephews Remy (Kailey) Ian (Kiri), Jim, and his great nephew Everett. Gary was predeceased by his mother Elsie, his father Jim, and his sister-in-law Jane.
Gary touched so many people's lives ... and you can ask anyone - Gary gave the best hugs ever!
There will forever be a void in our hearts. Gary, you were a class act, and you'll always be our little "Gar-Bear".
