November 5, 1957 - June 15, 2025

In loving memory ~

Garth "Swede" Granstrom, 68, passed away on June 15, 2025, in Trail, British Columbia, the same town where he was born on November 5, 1957. His life began and ended in the heart of the Kootenays, but his journey between those dates was filled with passion, adventure, and a deep connection to the natural world.

Garth was a gentle soul - complicated at times, but always kind-hearted. He had a profound love for the outdoors that led him to some of the most breathtaking places imaginable. Whether hiking through alpine meadows or standing quietly beside a still lake at dawn, Garth found peace in nature. It was there that he combined his two great passions: exploration and photography.

His photographs were more than images; they were windows into moments of serenity and awe. Picture a flat emerald lake reflecting towering mountains under a sky brushed with early morning light-that was Garths forte. He had an uncanny ability to capture not just the scene but the feeling of being there. His work continues on in the hearts and minds of all who have been lucky enough to view his art, offering glimpses into the beauty he so deeply cherished.

An avid fisherman, Garth never passed up an opportunity to cast a line into a stream or river. Whether or not he caught anything seemed secondary to the joy of being out in nature, rod in hand, immersed in quiet contemplation.

Garth also had a lifelong love of sports-especially hockey. A devoted Buffalo Sabres fan, his admiration for Gilbert Perreault was legendary among those who knew him. He was a familiar face at local rinks, where he regularly volunteered his time as scorekeeper or working the penalty box. His dedication to supporting local teams reflected his generous spirit and commitment to community.

Garth is survived by four siblings who will carry forward his memory: older brother Greg; younger brothers Glenn and Gene; and younger sister Karen. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Eric and Leone, and an older sister Janice.

As per Garth's wishes. Cremation has taken place. The family is planning a get together in the near future at the Warfield Hall. To celebrate and remember the life that was Garth. Sarah Stevens of Clark's Funeral Services has been entrusted with arrangements.

Those who knew Garth will remember him not only for his talents and interests but for the quiet way he touched lives- with kindness, creativity and authenticity. His presence will be deeply missed by many.

His star burned brightly and can always be seen in the night sky. All one needs to do-is look up.

Rest in peace Swede
