March 7, 1935 - January 26, 2024

In Loving Memory ~

It is with a heavy heart that our family announces the passing of Florida on January 26, 2024, at home, where she had been cared for by her adoring husband and family.

She also received wonderful support from Dr. Lina Suazo Hidalgo, and amazing love and care from her special friend and private home care provider Vivian, as well as from the many dedicated and compassionate Home Care Workers and Palliative Care Nurses from Interior Health.

Words cannot express our respect and the admiration we have for you all, and the work that you do!

Florida is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, George Commandeur, son Victor (Laurilee) Commandeur, daughter Jackie (Leonard) Arabia, son Colin (Paula) Commandeur, son-in-law Ivan Mishchenko, daughter--in-law Debra Commandeur, as well as her 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Florida was pre-deceased by her children George Allan Commandeur, Ruby Anne Commandeur, and Leo Phillip Commandeur.

Florida was born on March 7, 1935, in Laventure, Saskatchewan and moved to Prince George in 1954, where she began working at the Prince George Hospital.

On September 1, 1955, she met her future husband George, and one year to the day they were married. Florida said that the best decision she ever made in her life was moving to Prince George, and the best days in her life were meeting and marrying George and starting a family together.

Florida was a wonderful, caring, and loving mother to her 6 children, and that motherly love would then be extended on to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A service was held for Florida on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate, 813 Ward Street, Nelson.
