It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, grandfather and husband, Ernest Bamber on Friday, August 25, 2023. In 1935, Ernest was born in Manchester, UK, to parents: Ernest and Edna Bamber.
Ernest married his sweetheart Catherine Bamber (nee Myers) on February 22, 1958 in Seaton Carew, UK. Ernest spent 20 years in the Merchant Navy. Then in April of 1975, Ernest and Catherine, along with their four children, immigrated to Canada and proudly became Canadian citizens in January 1979.
While they originally landed in Calgary, the family soon moved to Spruce Grove, AB where all of the children grew up. In 2012, fed up with Albertan winters, Ernest and Catherine moved to Duncan, BC and soon settled into the community.
Ernest was a hard working man who doted on his family. His favourite activities were cruising and travelling to exotic locations with his family members.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two sisters: Mavis and Annette. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 65 years, Catherine are his four children: Kelsey (Bill) Janssen, Kevin (Monica) Bamber, Kirsty Bamber, Kathryn Bamber (Ben Denison); four grandchildren: Steven, David, Jeffrey, Christine and a very special great granddaughter: Kaylee. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister Audrey as well as by many other beloved extended family members in the United Kingdom.
A gathering in Remembrance of Ernest’s Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Sands Funeral Chapel Duncan; 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, BC, V9L 2P1.
