In loving memory ~
(92 Years Old)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished father and grand father.
Elmer was born in Creston, BC, the youngest of 13 children.
He worked underground at the Cominco mine in Riondel, BC for 10 years and was on the first blasting crew for the Fording Coal open pit mine in Elkford, BC where he worked for 2 years.
He moved his family to Smithers in 1973 and resumed working in the logging industry which was his passion, working as a faller and bucker-man. He enjoyed competing in logger sports events and won many trophies and titles. His barefoot victory in the obstacle pole bucking event in a 1970 competition in Crawford Bay remains legendary.
In younger years he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and berry picking. He was a sharp crib and poker player and a self taught musician playing the guitar, accordion and piano.
Known for his quick wit and humorous banter, he embodied integrity, strength and kindness, traits that endeared him to all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Valerie in 2005 and his daughter, Gayle Higginson in 2016. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Darlene Sebastian, his only grand child, Cole Enders and his son Rodney.
As per his wishes there will be no funeral service.
