In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness and loss that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Reder of Nelson, BC, at the age of 88.
A beloved mother known for her warm heart, love of life, generosity and kindness. She truly loved to volunteer. From politics to hospitals, or her church, she was always willing to contribute her time. She was a dedicated member of the United Church and loved creating beautiful flower arrangements for Sunday services. She was also a member of The Red Hatters, a local women's organization that gave her great joy.
Elizabeth was born in Leamington, Ontario, and in her 20's took over the family flower shop and greenhouse in Exeter, Ontario. At 31, she moved to Trail with her three kids. She later took her children to the Yukon, where for several years she owned another successful flower shop in Whitehorse. Later, she moved to Edmonton and then Calgary, finding success in various fields of work, showing her ability to learn other trades, but her main love was flowers. She was even able to help her daughter open her own flower shop in South Calgary.
Sadly, her daughter Jo-Ann, passed away in 1991.
In 2015, Elizabeth returned to the Kootenays to be with her sons in Nelson and became active in the community and with the local United church.
Elizabeth was a kind and gentle soul whose compassion and generosity never wavered. She is survived out west by her sister Barbara Wheeler of Vancouver, niece Leslie Young, sons John (Tracey), and Bruce (Carol) Northcott, grandchildren Hayden, Jack, Courtland, Halsey, and great-grandchildren Finley and Freya, and in Ontario by many loving relatives.
As per Elizabeth's wishes, there will be no public service but our deepest appreciation goes out to all her close friends who loved her. What she would wish for, is that you purchase for yourself, or a friend, some flowers from a small independent flower shop. And think of her.
