May 8, 1926 - May 30, 2025
On her ninetieth birthday, our mom Elda , received a note in one of her cards that read, "Keep on living". Well, she certainly did! She lived for nine more years, passing away peacefully on May 30, 2025 at the age of 99. Elda Angelina Allegretto(nee Fioretto) was born May 8,1926 in San Foca, Italy to Adelaide and Angelo Fioretto. She met Luigi while he was home from working in Trieste. He courted her in the cow stalls of the family farm during the winter months closely chaperoned by her grandmother. They were married for sixty years until Luigi's death in 2009. Our dad first came to Canada in 1949 and she followed a year later. They settled in Trail, B.C where they raised their three children Rita, Roger and Maryann. For Nonna or Bisnonna as she was lovingly called, family always came first. She was so proud of us all. She relished hearing stories of her children, grand children and her great grandchildren, even when she began suffering from dementia the last years of her life. Nonna touched our lives with selfless love, generosity and humour. Providing us with Italian meals and delicacies brought her great joy. There were many boxes sent from Trail by way of Greyhound bus filled with jars of antipasto, spaghetti sauce and of course panettone. They kept coming, even after we outgrew the starving student phase of our lives. Nonna was greatly loved and will be missed terribly. She leaves behind Rita((Andrew), Roger(Kathy) and Maryann(Doug), seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren (tenth due in July). Our mom always wished for us Coraggio(courage), Pace(peace),Salute(good health) and Lavoro( work/livelihood). Thank you to the staff of Seton Villa where she lived for many years and those of Dufferin Care Center where she most recently resided , for their wonderful care as well as to the many friends and family who visited during her stay at these facilities. A big thank you to Richard, Michele and Andrea Allegretto for all the support, care and love you gave our mom these past months. If you would like to remember our mom in some way please request a mass said in her name or make a donation to a charity of your choice. First Memorial Funeral Services North Vancouver is entrusted with cremation arrangements. A family remembrance will take place at a later date.
