In Loving Memory ~
After a long life, well lived, Marion Jones passed away peacefully in her home, in Courtenay BC, on July 16, 2023, comforted by her daughter, Linda. She had just celebrated her 102nd birthday.
Marion was born July 5th, 1921, to Ellen and Alfred Lockhart in Rokeby, SK, where she grew up on the family farm. Marion completed her nursing training at the Queen Victoria Hospital in Yorkton, SK and was a matron at a 10-bed hospital in Antler, SK.
In 1946, Marion married Harold Jones and later, moved across the country with the Air Force, finally settling in the Comox Valley.
Marion worked for many years as a Nurse finishing her career at St. Joe's Hospital in 1985. In retirement, she organized the nurse's lunches and volunteered at the Evergreen Senior Centre. A devoted member of the Canadian Daughter's League, Marion served as the provincial and national secretary.
She was a lifetime member of the horticultural society and shared her passion for gardening with her family.
In 1992, Marion moved from the hobby farm in Merville, BC to Canterbury Place, where she lived until her passing. To commemorate her 100th birthday, her neighbours planted a Canadian maple tree on the property.
She was a great traveller, on cruise ships and airlines, and an extraordinary navigator on road trips. She also loved playing cards, especially bridge, with Lucy and June.
Marion is survived by her four children Sharon Fraser, Carol Nelson (Allan), Linda Jones and Ray Jones grandchildren David Nelson (Monica), Richard Nelson (Liz), Jennifer Fielding, Trevor Fielding, Alli Jones (Jason Tucker), Levi Jones and Tyra Jones and great-grandchildren Rémi Villeneuve, Eric and Maia Nelson, Kella Mayers, and Hudson Tucker-Jones.
Marion will also be fondly remembered by her lifelong friend and sister-in-law, Mattie Jones, and by many nieces and nephews.
Marion was predeceased by her husband Harold Jones (1991), brothers Raymond (1925) and Lorne (2010) Lockhart, brother-in-law Cal Jones (2017) and sister-in-law Edna Lockhart (2022).
Well-known for her kind heart and easygoing spirit, Marion had a great sense of humour and will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 7th, 2023, from 1-3pm at Rotary Hall in the Florence Filberg Center. . In lieu of flowers, please go out and do a good turn in your community.
