October 13, 1938 - June 23, 2023
In the early hours of June 23th, 2023 Edgar Lavern Dahl peacefully called it a day after a valiant battle with dementia.
Ed was born on October 13th, 1938, in the small town of Beatty, Saskatchewan and fulfilled his dreams of becoming a veterinarian graduating with the class of OVC 66. Along the way, he found his soul mate, Monica and together they had two sons Chris and Jeff.
He was active in the governing bodies for both the Ontario and BC Veterinary Medical Associations while engaged in private practice.
A sense of adventure led them to living in many different communities, Elora, Courtenay (three times), Sidney, 150 Mile House, Dawson Creek and Salmon Arm where he acquired many friends. After leaving private practice he worked for the Federal Government which led to adventures in the arctic circle with caribou and to Holland with swine.
Video photography became his hobby and it gave him a passion for protecting the natural world. It led to many adventurous trips seeking subjects to record. He delighted in sharing his knowledge of wild life with all who would listen.
He was predeceased by his parents Clifford and Olive, sisters Alma, Gwen, Flo, Grace, Hazel and brother Harvey; all of Saskatchewan. He is survived by his wife Monica; sons Chris (Alison) and Jeff (Denise); brother Orville; sister Freda; grandsons Kevin, Eric, Owen, Matthew, Trevor and Zach; and numerous nieces and nephews.
We wish to thank Dr. Hunter and all the staff on special care at Glacier View Lodge.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Donations in his name can be made to Glacier View Lodge, 2450 Back Rd. Courtenay, BC, V9N 8B5.
