In Loving Memory ~
Our hearts break for the loss of a well loved man. Doug passed peacefully on his own terms surrounded by the love of his family. He faced the past 15 months with grit and grace, hopeful he could beat the beast all the while retaining his sense of humour and strong opinions.
He is survived by Barb, his loving wife of 46 years, Brother Ron (Peg) and Sister Marlene (John) and his beloved children Duncan (Jess) and Teri (Lee) and 7 adorable grandchildren, Scarlett, Sadie, Hunter, Mabel, Malcolm, Sarah and Cullen, his biggest regret was not being there to watch them grow up.
Doug was also a proud member of the fire service for 34 years, 27 of those years in the Saanich Fire Dept, retiring as an Assistant Chief Training Officer. He also spent over 3 years in the Okanagan as Chief of the North Westside Fire Dept. and another 3 years as the Fire Service Coordinator for the Regional District of Nanaimo.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, a squash player and one time arm wrestling champ. He was also very proud to have built and launched his 36 ft steel sailboat, the Salina-J, his other great love. He had so many plans for the future...sadly gone too soon.
'Where there is deep grief, there was great love, remember the love'.
Many thanks to Dr. Ross for her surgical skills and Dr. Rohan for his compassion and tireless efforts. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Pancreatic Cancer Research or a charity of your choice.
A celebration of Doug's life will be held on Monday, Oct 2nd from 1 to 4 pm at the Fireside Grill, 4509 West Saanich Rd. in Victoria.
