July 9, 1934 – July 11, 2023
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Babcock on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Columbia View Lodge.
Dorothy was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan on July 9, 1934. She arrived in Trail in 1957 and by 1958 had come into the Babcock family that included 7 children still living in the Glenmerry house. With the character and humor that she became known for, Dorothy spent the next 20 years caring for the Babcock children and building a life with her husband Gerald.
Dorothy is survived by Larry (Nonja) Gould, Barry (Sandra) Babcock, and by Richard (Eva) Babcock, Ken (Brenda) Babcock, Lorraine John, Sharon (Fred) Fabbi, Glenn (Sandra) Babcock, Russ (Laurel) Babcock, (Carol) Babcock, Irene Tambellini, Jacqueline Swanson, Gerald Babcock and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, Gerry Babcock (1987), Melvin Babcock (1991) and Lawrence Babcock (2023).
“Gramma Dorothy” will forever hold a special place in the hearts of her many grandchildren as she was forever ready for a laugh or a hug. Dorothy extended her love and kindness beyond her own family, often sharing her time & energy with all the children in the area. She is fondly being remembered as the “Mom” of the neighborhood, by every Glenmerry citizen under the current age of 75.
Dorothy’s exuberance for Life never waned. She was always making new friends and spent significant time contributing to the community whether it be volunteering at the Legion in East Trail or being an engaged parishioner of the Presbyterian Church.
Until the very end, Dorothy lived with courage and determination with the faith that God would take her when the time was right.
A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church on Pine Street in Trail, B.C., at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Health (KBRH) Foundation.
