In loving memory ~
Donald (Don) Fred McGillivary ascended on December 2, 2024, in Nanaimo Hospital. Born April 24, 1931, he spent much of his life on Vancouver Island and many winters down south in the sunshine. Don joins his mother, father and beloved daughter-in-law, Laurie Lynn in the spiritual realm. Don is survived by his wife Shirley of 50 years, sister Josephine, Patricia and their 4 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Daniel - Shane (Wendy), Chad (Max, Mason & Mylee), Laura (Jada & Austin), Wendy - Tami (Tommy), Cathy, and Willie.
Don entered into the Air Force and found his passion for planes, first as a mechanic then as a commercial pilot. Bought Nanaimo Airlines and created Pacific Coastal Airlines with scheduled flights to and from Vancouver and charters up and down the coast. Helicopters entered the picture with many years working for the US Navy in Nanoose.
Leaving the airplane business he began a farming career, raising and breeding cattle. Being successful farming, Don turned his eye to commercial fishing and tried his hand on the sea with his son Dan. Always enjoyed a good golf game, tennis or pickleball (even before it was trendy).
He will be missed,
however his star still shines
and radiates over us.
Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 1-4 pm at the Branch 256 Legion 1630 East Wellington Road, Nanaimo, BC.
