Denis was born May 6, 1953 in New Westminster at the St. Mary's Hospital. He is the fourth child of Jeannine and Maurice Gagné.
He grew up with his siblings Sue, Gerry, Lill, Lynn, Vic, Lorraine and Rick in Port Coquitlam. He has been a marine mechanic forever and enjoyed participating in the bathtub races from Nanaimo to Port Moody.
On March 11, 1978 Denis married Sheryl McQuade at the Our Lady of Fatima Church in Coquitlam. They had three sons - Anthony (married to Lana), Darren (married to Carol), and Wyatt. Denis was also the proud grandpa of Audrey, Robson, and Charlotte and uncle to 18 nieces and nephews.
In 1984 Denis and Sheryl moved to 100 Mile House. They have been living in the same house near Lone Butte since 1985. He was an active member of St. Jude's Catholic Church and active with the Knights of Columbus. When he wasn't fixing boats, spending time with his grandchildren or helping at the church, he could be found fishing in Ocean Falls or playing crib.
Denis died unexpectedly on April 27, 2024. We cherish all of our memories of Denis and he will be missed. The funeral mass will be at St. Jude's Parish on Friday, May 10th, 2024 at 11:00 am. A prayer vigil will be held on Thursday, May 9th at 7:00 pm, also at St. Jude's. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the St. Jude's Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund.
