August 27, 1934 - January 11, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dad, David Steve Kochan, at the age of 87.
Dad was born in Stenen Saskatchewan to Mary and Peter Kochan. He was the middle child of 5 children.
He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1952. He served as a medic in the Korean War, as well as 3 NATO tours in Germany.
It was in Iserlohn Germany during his first tour he met the love of his life, Marie. She was a young Irish girl serving in the Royal Army Nursing Corp. After dating for 4 months, they married in 1957 and moved to Canada.
They were married 59 years when mom passed away in 2016. They went on to have 3 children, Kim, Colleen, and Peter. Our family moved between Germany and Canada as dad was transferred every two to three years.
After retiring from the military in Chilliwack dad worked for the Correctional Service of Canada. Mom and dad loved to travel, and during their retirement years enjoyed time in their camper van, travelling in Canada and the US. They especially enjoyed the Oregon Coast.
Dad was recently predeceased by his wife Marie in 2016, and his grandson Matthew Hubner in 2018.
He is survived by his 3 children, Kim (Alf) Hubner, Colleen McDaniel, Peter Kochan, and sister Shirley Kochan.
A family gathering will be held at a later date.
