In loving memory ~
With love we announce the death of David Lloyd Adams, who died aged 78 years in the spring of 2024 in Watrous, Saskatchewan. One of seven brothers, David is survived by brothers Robert (Linda,) Don (Renee) and Bert's wife Berna Adams. He was predeceased by brothers Russell, Phillip (Rollie), Ervin (Sharon) and Bert Adams. Survived by his four children, three step-daughters and four grandchildren, David was a man of honesty and integrity who valued family, inclusion and fair-play.
Born in 1946 to Earl and Mary Adams, David's cross-country move by rail from Manitoba to Campbell River pre-dated the creation of the Trans-Canada Highway. David's childhood stomping grounds were in the neighbourhood of Thirteenth Avenue in the days when the sea still rolled onto the beach near the present-day Library and Tidemark Theatre.
David instilled his love of learning, thirst for knowledge, reverence for nature and willingness to try new things in his children. He taught all of his children to ride a bike, to fish and to sail. He shared his joy in creating and appreciating music from opera to blue-grass, and played the banjo, guitar and bongo-drums.
Sailing was a source of joy for David. He was a member of the Campbell River Yacht Club in its infancy alongside fellow enthusiasts willing to sail small easily-capsized boats in strong winds on the beaches of Willow Point and on the lakes west of town. He graduated to sturdier craft on the lakes and a keeled ocean-going sailboat for family camping trips to the islands and marine parks near Campbell River.
David made a career in the Engineering department of the Elk Falls Pulp and Paper Mill. In his home life, he taught himself to do what was needed, from building new sections onto his home for his growing family to full-scale house renovations.
After his marriage to his first wife, followed by several years of recreating his life as a single man, David moved to Saskatchewan in 2011 to embark on a new adventure and begin his second marriage in 2012. Together, and with fishing rods and cameras in hand, he and his wife explored the prairie and lakes in pursuit of fish, birds and other wildlife.
It is a great joy for David's children and step-children to see his strong values, open mindedness, generous spirit and kind heart resonate through his grandchildren.
We will be holding a Celebration of Life for David in Campbell River on Saturday April 26, 2025, at the Rotary Fieldhouse (425 Merecroft Road) beginning at 2pm.
Thank you so much to the staff of the Watrous District Health Complex and Manitou Care Home for their exemplary and loving care for Dad and his family.
